I explore forms of coexistence through materials.
For many years, I have observed the transformative processes of materials by directly formulating minerals and metal oxides. What interests me is not the finished form, but the moment when different properties encounter one another and produce unexpected outcomes. While human intervention ceases inside the kiln, materials react, transform, and negotiate according to their own tendencies.
I see these processes as metaphors for the ways humans and nonhumans, living and nonliving beings, selves and others come into relation. Each possesses its own characteristics and agency, and the world is shaped through the collisions, permeations, and entanglements of these forces. Rather than proposing an ideal state, my work is closer to an observation of beings continuously becoming together and of the contingent events that emerge through their coexistence.
Recently, I have expanded my practice through installation, writing, and performance to explore situations in which materials coexist within ecological networks of relations. My work constructs fields where different entities, each carrying their own properties and contingencies, encounter and affect one another. Through these encounters, I investigate the conditions under which viewers may experience worlds beyond anthropocentric perspectives and encounter unexpected moments of wonder and curiosity.
